Full Circle
Feb 4th, 2009 | By Kiwi | Category: Editorials, Feature, People I Can Do WithoutLike many days where idle thoughts float across my head only to be side swiped by me and pulled down to the abyss that is my morbid mind, today’s topic is no longer a stranger to the abyss.
I was working away on my computer at work when a lovely little Outlook pop-up notified me of an email. Sighing (knowing it will be another silly request) I opened it up. In it was a simple 2 line that said:
I have found two of the same file on my system. Can you please delete one for me?
I would not call myself a computer guru by any means. But the day someone asks me to delete a file FOR them is the day I must ponder how far the human race have really come. I filed this away for further examination after work.
In the beginning of men’s time, they learnt skills to better their lives. Later, men learnt to develop and build tools to make those skills and tasks easier to perform. In time, some men master one craft, while others mastered another. This difference in ability enabled trade and the development of economy, edging our society into a more “modern” times.
With economy, the wealthy separated themselves from the poor and hired the poor to do their bidding. In time, the wealthy lost their craft, forgot how to their ancestor’s skills. While the poor (the slaves) kept to their roots and eventually became skilled labourers.
Then came technology, which enabled us to do even more; even eliminate human interaction in some cases. Men who are skilled with technology are employed to design, maintain and troubleshoot these machines. With prolonged non-use, men forgot the humble DOS days where everyone needed to know command-line in order to operate a computer.
Just like the rich-slave-owning forefathers employed skill labours because they forgot what it was like to be out in the field, building their own house, upper crush corporate bimbos employ IT personnel and engineers because they can’t even figure out how to delete a damn file.
What has this world come to? We have gone full circle people. Has the intelligence of this world gone that low below par? If yes, then why do our government still continuously lower the bar on education?
No, I’m not talking about tax cuts for school system. I’m not complain to get smaller class sizes. That, is all inconsequential. Children don’t need individual attention in order to learn. Children needs discipline. At the age where children shape their entire life, they don’t have the ability yet to consciously say “Studying is good for me”. Almost ALL kids will say they hate school. When given the freedom to learn, they will choose not to. And turn out be morons.
What’s worse is these made up bloody learning disabilities. When I was a kid, there is no such thing as a learning disability. You were either a retard, or not. ADD, ADHD are all just a bunch of annoying mother’s bad excuse on why their kid isn’t as smart as the others. It’s not even a real problem. I would call it a different learning style at best. People need to realize that problems are problems when you make them a problem.
And the parents are so worried… “OMG! My poor Billy has 2 tests tomorrow. How will he ever survive?!?!”. I believe it was 4th quarter last year the government was taking away the Grade 10 wide assessments because it was too much pressure on the kids. Are you fucking kidding me? Kids nowadays have no pressure. Why else do they have time to go explore other pass times (such as slacking people on the sky train)?? Keep these dip shits in school and busy. An idle mind is a dangerous one. … Lowering the passing grade.. shame on you people!
I was an extremely edge kid when I was in school. I would have my own book under the table and never listened in class. Yet I was always able to answer the teacher’s questions just based on what was written on the board and logic. If I was diagnosed today, some might say I have ADHD (I make careless mistakes, don’t care about the small things, want to get things done quickly and get bored quickly), but dare I say I didn’t affect me whatsoever. Never had a dime of government learning disability grants. Went through primary in boarding school, went home once a week. Elementary was from 7 am till 5 pm with and hour for lunch. You betcha that kept me busy. Guess what, now, I’m the one deleting the file and not the one waiting hopelessly on the other side of that email for the file to be deleted for me.
So parents, give your child (and yourself for god sakes) some bloody back bone and don’t label your child with a “learning disability” sticker. Because when you do, you know that child is going to be the one asking “What does the big red button do?” right before pushing it.
